What Exactly is Satellite Direct?

Satellite Direct is basically a computer program that lets you watch your favorite TV channels directly on your computer. You don’t need a TV for that but you can hook your computer to TV if you prefer bigger screen. Satellite Direct is currently the most popular of these kind of applications. It works on Microsoft Windows (meaning you can’t run it on Linux or Mac OS) and isn’t too resource-hungry (a 1GHz+ computer with 512 MB RAM and a graphics card will do).

Satellite Direct is supposed to replace your cable TV, but does it really work as advertised? We’ve got mixed feeling about it. It’s definitely cheap (a one-time payment of about $30). But there aren’t really 3500 channels available like advertised. A lot of those channels are just web cam feeds and some are really low quality. Despite that we think it’s still pretty good money/value purchase. You get about 1000 good channels and best of all there’s no monthly subscription fee!

The Program is Good

I came across the Iplayer website when I was searching for new TV shows that are popular in various countries. After reading what the program does I decided to try out their free iplayer abroad. What I liked about their trial version is that it allows you to use the program for 15 days without charge compared to other programs that only give you 5 days. After installing and restarting my computer, I searched the Iplayer for channels that are available. I can’t help but be amazed that almost all channels from around the world can be viewed thru this program. So for 15 days I enjoyed watching different kinds of TV shows and discovered that I enjoy watching foreign TV shows against the English ones. When my free trial was over, I immediately got myself a 1-year subscription and spread the word to my family and friends about how good the program is.
