What Knives to Cook with

When I cook I do not use very many different kitchen knives right now. Maybe it is because I am just not that good of cook or not that sophisticated but I generally get by with just a couple of different knives in the kitchen. One of them is what I would call a chopping knife which is about ten inches long. I use this knife to chop all of my vegetables like onions, celery, carrots and other vegetables that I cook with. It works great for slicing stuff too like mushrooms although I suppose I could use a smaller knife for that and it might work just as well or even better.
And then I use a medium size knife for other stuff like paring and peeling. I am not sure exactly what to call this knife though. I suppose it is just an average kitchen knife but it gets the job done really well.
